haiti_map_usgs.jpgPhoto by U.S. Geological SurveyThe world’s governments and relief organizations are responding to a 7.0 (7.3) earthquake, with multiple aftershocks, that struck Port-au-Prince, Haiti, just before nightfall yesterday.  CNN, which broadcast coverage of the disaster through the night, has early photos of the earthquake’s impacts.Poverty, weak infrastructure and few resources will pose challenges for Haiti’s recovery. However, some international relief groups already had bases in the country and have supplies on hand for immediate distribution.
