“I have seen first hand how accountability can bring about public awareness regarding local governments’ preparation for disaster. DAP seeks to make more information available, digestible, and honest, which is incredibly important. This kind of awareness and transparency are crucial to prevent avoidable tragedies.”
“DAP has strong and creative leadership and strong belief in its core mission — a mission that is important in a modern democracy.”
“The natural disaster of Katrina was terrible. The human disaster of it was unforgiveable. Thanks for your effort to keep something like it from happening again!”
“DAP makes significant changes and doesnt promote useless rhetoric. There is actual grassroots organizing which utilizes the american political system to change emergency response to disasters.”
“After volunteering with Red Cross in Mississippi after Katrina, my eyes were opened to the harsh and cruel reality of what can happen to the poor when disaster strikes and agencies do not appropriately respond. DAP would change this!!”
“Accountability is vital in so many areas of our lives. Not the least of which in areas that involve the safety of others. Disasters will continue to happen. That’s a given. How we react to those disasters is another story. People pledge their time, their money, their property, and ultimately some pledge their lives to rescue those caught in the disaster. Since so many give so freely, those in charge of collecting the donations need to be held accountable, when the time comes to distribute and inventory those goods. People in charge, especially politicians at all levels, need to be held accountable for their actions. This is the only way to ensure that they do the right thing!”
“Disaster Accountability is doing what needed to be done 30 years ago….keep up the good work.”
“DAP is a MUCH needed organization in an area where too much has gone ignored and not enough has gotten done. Thank you, DAP, for the work that you do.”
“Disaster Accountability Project ROCKS! We need a watchdog to ensure relief organizations are saying what they do and doing what they say.”
“DAP asks the hard questions we all need answers to—sometimes they even get them!”
“DAP has changed my definition of justice and advocacy for those who are not able to speak on behalf of themselves!”
“FEMA and other agencies don’t have time to do real-time assessment of how they’re doing, and GAO reviews come too far after the fact. DAP fills that critical need…”
“Natural disasters our beyond our control; governmental bureaucratic disasters are within it–and DAP helps to ensure that they do not occur.”
“What the DAP has accomplished to date is truly a testament to the resolve and compassion of each of its members! Keep up the good work!”

“The Disaster Accountability Project may save thousands of lives by ensuring that rescue agencies implement necessary reforms to avoid fiascos such as Katrina. We’ve seen too much tragedy –human suffering that could have easily been averted. DAP fills a critical gap in the disaster response system.”
“As I resident of Houma, LA, I witnessed firsthand how the public response in the wake of Katrina fell apart. DAP is doing great work to ensure that never happens again.”
“The Disaster Accountability Project is critical in ensuring that ALL citizens receive the care and resources necessary in times of extreme need. They’ve become the cement that fills the holes in government – and serve a significant role in ensuring the stability and success of future rescue efforts. Ben – you’re a role model and the pre-emptive engine of saving lives. Kudos to the Disaster Accountability Project.”
“As someone who heard a lot of what people were going through following Hurricane Ike, closing the gaps in service that exist following disasters is something that is fundamental and all too often overlooked. Thank you for all of your hard work. Good luck!”
