January 5, 2011: One Year Follow Up Report on the Transparency of Relief Organizations Responding to the 2010 Haiti Earthquake

One year after the Haiti earthquake, DAP surveyed 196 organizations again.  As a cholera epidemic was killing thousands, the 38 responding organizations had raised $1.4 billion and only spent about half. In an investigation of the groups' websites, DAP found that only one was "more transparent," eight others were found to be "somewhat transparent" and the rest (187) were "not transparent," with little factual information and mostly appeals to emotion and generic anecdotes.     Read the report

Spring 2009: Report on Southern Louisiana Emergency Preparedness

In March 2009, DAP requested and/or reviewed the emergency plans of 22 parishes across South Louisiana to gauge the region's disaster preparedness and planning readiness in advance of the 2009 Hurricane Season. After a number of destructive hurricane seasons, updated State and Federal disaster plans, frameworks, and annexes, and hopefully many lessons learned, DAP assessed plan availability, modernity, and comprehensiveness.
