For Immediate Release:
PLEASE DISTRIBUTE: Disaster Accountability Hotline accepting Isaac-related calls: 866-9-TIP-DAP (866-984-7327).
Report Any Gaps in Isaac Prep & Response.
Disaster Accountability Project’s toll-free hotline (866-9-TIP-DAP) is accepting Isaac-related calls from impacted residents and relief workers. Report any gaps in Preparedness or Response/Relief before or after landfall. Include specific location and nature of the gaps reported. Please distribute in affected areas and any locations that receive evacuees.
Note: Hotline calls should not replace any calls to emergency services. Disaster Accountability Project is not a service provider.
“We want to know what is not working. The sooner gaps are realized, the faster they can be addressed,” said Ben Smilowitz, executive director, Disaster Accountability Project. “Despite the best intentions of responsible agencies and organizations, independent oversight is necessary to ensure people do not fall through cracks unnoticed.”
The toll-free hotline (866-9-TIP-DAP) is available as a public service for disaster survivors, workers and volunteers to report critical gaps in disaster prevention, response, relief, and recovery services or planning. The Hotline assisted Gulf Coast residents and responders after hurricanes Ike and Gustav in 2008.
Launched after Hurricane Katrina, the nonprofit Disaster Accountability Project saves lives and reduces suffering after disasters by maximizing the impact of preparedness, response and relief through citizen oversight and engagement, policy research and advocacy, and public education.
