More than 100 people have been arrested for allegedly submitting fraudulent claims to the disaster relief fund created for victims of the BP oil spill in 2010.

Individuals facing charges include business owners who allegedly filed false economic claims in land-locked towns and individuals who stole the identities of real oil spill victims.

The fund’s claims administrator estimated 18,000 individual suspicious claims filed for the $20 billion fund that was set up by BP to compensate economic victims.

Florida Governor Rick Scott said he has confidence in Florida’s preparation for the upcoming Tropical Storm Isaac, according to a statement issued.

The storm is threatening to hit Tampa while the Republican National Convention being held there Aug. 27-30. The governor said Florida’s emergency personnel have been communicating with convention officials regarding the forecast of Isaac and the potential evacuation of the additional 50,000 individuals in Tampa for the convention. Bryan Koon, Florida’s emergency management director, said the convention was one of his “lesser concerns” as he concentrates on the population unable to evacuate the area.
